The New York Yankees may have some questions to answer this offseason after the season fell apart and went off the rails.
Heading into this weekend’s series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees own a record of 61-66 and are in last place in the AL East.
More than likely, the Yankees will miss the postseason for the first time since 2016.
However, it’s a big offseason for GM Brian Cashman, who Yankees fans and media members have been very critical of over the past several years.
On a recent podcast, insiders Ryan Sampson and Jon Heyman discussed what needs to be done in order for the Yankees to return to contention and what ultimately went wrong.
“Cashman is still going to be the guy to try and figure out what is b.s. and what is real? I think a lot of it’s real”

Sampson discussed how Cashman needs to sift through what rumors are real and what rumors are fake.
This year marks the first season in Cashman’s tenure as general manager that the Yankees are not competitive.
Sampson asked Heyman what he thinks the line is between what is real and what is ultimately just rumors about what went wrong for the Yankees.
Heyman discussed how the only major free-agent moves that have worked out in recent years are the signings of Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge.
He criticized the Yankees for several moves they made that did not work out, mentioning the trade for Frankie Montas last year at the trade deadline.
Heyman notes Cashman will have to acknowledge that a lot of things have gone wrong this year and the team requires some fixing.
