Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas caused quite a stir recently when he asked Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry whether he thought he is the best point guard in NBA history.
Although Curry paused and gave it some thought, he ultimately said that he does think he’s the best ever to play the position in the NBA, which caused some backlash, with many believing that Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson is the best ever to do it at the point guard position.
Of course, Arenas couldn’t stop there, as he has now thrown future Hall of Famer LeBron James into the mix when talking about the greatest-ever conversation at point guard on his “Gil’s Arena” podcast, via ClutchPoints.
“[Lakers] moved Norm [Nixon], they gave the ball to Magic because it was better played by a guy at that size… If you’re gonna try to use Magic as the ‘point guard’ then you have to throw LeBron as the best PG.”

This conversation seems like it has gone way off the rails by throwing James into the mix, who has always been considered a forward but would handle the ball occasionally.
Arenas tries to make the case that when Johnson came into the league, he was playing a different position other than point guard because that’s where Norm Nixon was playing until he was traded.
The fact of the matter is Johnson played point guard for over a decade and established himself as a point guard.
Even the argument with Curry gets a bit murky because some would say he’s more of a shooting guard because he tends to play off the ball a lot of the time.
If you are going to make these kinds of arguments, you need to stay in one lane rather than jumping back and forth to try and make a point, or it becomes confusing, and the point gets lost.
Arenas seems to be making a post-playing career out of making confusing hot takes that ultimately don’t make too much sense.
