The running back drama in the NFL this past offseason dominated headlines and the Indianapolis Colts find themselves embroiled in their own situation.
Jonathan Taylor and the Colts have been at odds over the past few weeks over a contract extension.
Taylor is entering the fourth year of his rookie scale contract and is eligible to sign a long-term deal, but Indianapolis has shown no signs of giving him that.
Other running backs like Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Tony Pollard were given the franchise tag earlier this year, and it appears Taylor and his camp are wary of that same fate befalling him next offseason.
With no inclination to grant Taylor his contract extension, the franchise finally decided to allow him to search for a trade.
The news shocked the league, including sports talk show host Rich Eisen.

Taylor has been dealing with an ankle injury that forced the Colts to place him on the physically unable to perform list and he remains there for the time being.
Perhaps some of the concern with committing future guaranteed dollars to Taylor is due to his health, though the payoff is worth it for someone with his talent and ability.
Regardless, Taylor now has the opportunity to find a new home before the 2023 season begins and there’s no doubt that Indianapolis will be seeking a large return.
There are numerous teams in the NFL that could use a running back like Taylor to lead their backfield but it remains to be seen if any of them are willing to give up the haul that the Colts will surely want.
