Right now, the favorite to win this year’s regular-season NFL MVP award is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He won the award last year, and he is generally considered the best player in football, not to mention an all-time great in the making.

He led the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four years as they got past the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, and Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.

The Jaguars put up a good fight in the Divisional round despite a poor game from quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who was red-hot during the second half of the 2022 campaign.

Analyst Emmanuel Acho feels Lawrence will be in the conversation for this year’s MVP award, via “Speak” on FS1.

Acho pointed out that not only does Lawrence have talent, but he has a head coach in Doug Pederson who got the most out of Carson Wentz several years ago while with the Eagles.

In 2017, Wentz was a candidate for the MVP until he suffered a season-ending injury, and it was the one year in which the No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft was living up to his potential.

Ever since leaving Philly and the tutelage of Pederson, Wentz’s career took a nosedive, and at the age of 30, he still doesn’t have a team right now.

It is now easy to forget that Lawrence struggled mightily as a rookie in 2021 and led the NFL with 17 interceptions while managing to throw just 12 touchdown passes.

He has come a long way in just a short amount of time, and the sky could be the limit for him.
