Canada’s Summer McIntosh wins gold in 200m butterfly at world championships

Canada’s Summer McIntosh won a gold medal in the women’s 200-metre butterfly on Thursday at the world aquatics championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

It was McIntosh’s second medal of the meet. The 16-year-old from Toronto won bronze on Wednesday in the 200-metre freestyle after finishing fourth in her opening race of the competition — the 400-metre freestyle.

McIntosh finished in two minutes, 4.06 seconds for a world junior record. Elizabeth Dekkers of Australia was second and Regan Smith of the U.S. was third.

McIntosh captured gold in the 200 butterfly at last year’s worlds in Budapest.

The Toronto teen now has three career gold medals at the world championships. She has six overall.
