The San Antonio Spurs have been dormant for the last few years, but it looks like happy days will soon be back for them.

They won the NBA draft lottery, giving them the No. 1 pick and the opportunity to draft 7-foot-3 French wunderkind Victor Wembanyama, whom many feel has major superstar potential.

It was the equivalent of winning a $500 million Powerball jackpot, but it was just one part of what has so far been an outstanding summer for the Spurs organization, as highlighted by Front Office Sports.

Right after they won the draft lottery, the Spurs received 2,500 deposits for season tickets in less than 24 hours, which has meant an influx of capital for the franchise.

The team also will open a new headquarters for basketball operations later this summer, and the facility will reportedly include a motion capture shooting lab, hydrotherapy pools, and a sensory deprivation tank, according to axios.com.

In addition, head coach and executive Gregg Popovich has received a very lucrative five-year contract extension, despite being 74 years of age.

Despite all this optimism and activity, it’s important to remember that it will take time for the Spurs to be a championship-caliber team again.

Wembanyama didn’t exactly look good in his first summer league game, and it looks like he has a lot of work to do on not just his offensive game but also his body and overall strength.

They also have to build a strong cast around him, and that is something plenty of teams never manage to do when they have a legitimate superstar.

But if there is one organization that can get it done, it is the Spurs.
