As the month of June winds down, it’s time to get prepared for trade season.

The August 1 trade deadline is just over a month away, and some big names may be on the move.

Teams in contention will be looking to put the finishing touches on their rosters as they prepare to make a run at the postseason, while those out of contention will more than likely look to capitalize on potential returns for some of their key pieces.

On Twitter, MLB insider Jon Morosi noted that there could be a potential trade in the works involving the Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Mariners are in need of some offense, while the Cardinals could use pitching.

Morosi notes that both sides have what the other needs and that there have been trade talks between the two sides over the last year.

Talks have not progressed just yet, but Morosi notes that the fit is “obvious.”

The Cardinals have a plethora of young hitters such as Alec Burleson, Juan Yepez, Tyler O’Neill, Dylan Carlson, and Lars Nootbaar.

With a logjam in their outfield, they could stand to move a few pieces.

The Mariners have some solid young pitchers such as Bryce Miller, George Kirby, and Logan Gilbert.

A top-of-the-rotation arm or somebody that could give the Cardinals a boost in the future could be on the move.

Seattle could also be a place where somebody such as Yepez or Burleson could get more regular at-bats than what they are getting now in St. Louis.
