The San Francisco 49ers are one of a few teams that have a real shot at winning Super Bowl LVIII, which will take place at Allegiant Stadium in the Las Vegas area.
They have a stacked roster on both sides of the football, especially on defense, where they led the NFL in points and total yards allowed last season.
But even though the Niners are one of the favorites to win it all this coming season, it doesn’t mean it will be easy if they end up doing so.
While their 2023 regular season schedule will be manageable in terms of the strength of their opponents, they will be racking up a lot of frequent flyer miles, as The Athletic’s David Lombardi pointed out.
Working on my season travel schedule as we speak and developing an appreciation for just how many miles the 49ers will be flying in 2023.
About 30,000 travel miles projected for SF (not including playoffs which are TBD, of course). It takes 24,901 miles to cross entire globe

San Francisco’s season will start with a trip to Western Pennsylvania and a rare cross-conference game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, before heading back to the West Coast to take on their Southern California rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, at SoFi Stadium.
The 49ers will then have three straight games at home, but they will begin a challenging stretch in early October.
That stretch starts with a Week 5 home contest versus the improved Dallas Cowboys, after which they will have road contests versus the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings.
They will then return home to face Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals before having a bye in Week 9.
Kyle Shanahan’s group will hit the road right afterward for a contest against the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars, return home to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers then have two straight road contests versus the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles.
Still, the scene could be set for the Niners to finally make good on their “quest for six.”
