The Washington Commanders appear to be heading into a new era, as Dan Snyder, who has owned the franchise since 1999, seems to be on the verge of selling it.

In addition, they will have a new starter at quarterback this fall in Sam Howell.

Howell was a rookie in 2022, and he started just one game at the end of the schedule, which has led many to have lowered expectations for him.

The Commanders posted a video on their official Twitter account in the hope of getting fans excited about him.

Howell had a pretty successful college career at the University of North Carolina, throwing for 10,283 yards and 92 touchdowns in his three years at Chapel Hill.

But he was just a fifth-round choice of Washington in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the team started last season with veteran Carson Wentz as the starter under center.

But Wentz fractured the ring finger on his throwing hand in October, and when he was cleared to return, the team continued to go with Taylor Heinicke as the starter.

No matter how well Howell does this fall and winter, the Commanders will have an uphill climb when it comes to making the playoffs.

They play in a very competitive NFC East division that features the defending conference champions in the Philadelphia Eagles, an improved Dallas Cowboys club, and the surprising New York Giants.

Washington hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season, and they have been to the postseason just six times in Snyder’s 24 seasons as their owner.
