Panthers’ Bobrovsky yanked after allowing four goals vs. Golden Knights in Game 2

The proverbial clock looks like it may be approaching midnight for Sergei Bobrovsky.

The Florida Panthers’ heroic netminder and the odds-on Conn Smythe favourite heading into the Stanley Cup Final was pulled after allowing four goals on just 15 shots — good for a remarkably pedestrian .733 save percentage — midway through the second period of Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Bobrovsky has now allowed a four-spot in back-to-back games for the Panthers, who find themselves in a hole against a Knights squad firing on all cylinders.

The goal that concluded Bobrovsky’s evening, a slick give-and-go feed finished by Nicolas Roy, marked Vegas’ ninth goal of the Stanley Cup Final in roughly four-and-a-half periods, an astonishing feat given that Florida surrendered just five goals total against the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.

Alex Lyon, who last appeared in Game 3 of the first round against the Boston Bruins before ceding the crease Bobrovsky, took over between the pipes for the Panthers.

Game 3 in the series is Thursday, starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
