The youth movement is on for the San Francisco Giants.

Recently, the team has gotten a huge boost from two key rookies in third baseman Casey Schmitt and catcher Patrick Bailey.

As such, they have found themselves right in the thick of the Wild Card race in the National League.

But their crop of young stars certainly has plenty of veteran leadership to lean on as they begin their Major League careers.

During Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, NBCS, the TV home of the Giants, caught a glimpse of a moment Schmitt and veteran shortstop Brandon Crawford were sharing in the dugout.

Crawford can be seen mentoring Schmitt and showing him film on an iPad.

Crawford of course, was once in Schmitt’s shoes.

Back in 2011, the veteran shortstop was just a rookie and was making his first impressions on the team.

Crawford has been around for two of the Giants’ three World Series titles, all of which came in a five-year span from 2010-14.

So naturally, Crawford understands what it’s like to not only be a young player, but compete in a winning environment.

That knowledge can of course be passed down to younger players within the organization, with Schmitt being one of them.

Crawford, 36, has taken on a mentorship role as he moves into the latter stages of his career.

The 36-year-old came up to the Major Leagues back in 2011.

Schmitt of course made his debut just last month and is already off to a hot start.

But with Crawford’s help, Schmitt has the opportunity to became a superstar with the Giants.
