$1 extra for Refreshers with no water

play

Starbucks will charge you an extra $1 if you order its popular fruity Refreshers drinks with no water.

Starting Tuesday, if you order a Dragon Drink Starbucks Refreshers Beverage but hold the water, you will pay $1 more

Starbucks says asking for a Refresher with no water is the same as asking for another espresso shot in your latte. Leaving out the water means adding more Refresher base which, if you were wondering, is made from water, sugar, flavorings and green coffee extract.

Contrary to social media rumors, “Starbucks Refreshers Beverages can still be customized with light or no ice free of charge,” Starbucks spokeswoman Megan Adams told USA TODAY in a statement.

Baristas are steeling themselves. Three Starbucks employees told Insider they were nervous about a backlash from fans of Refreshers.

Customers have revolted in the past over when Starbucks discontinued syrups or changed how customers earned Starbucks Star rewards, Insider said.

Refreshers have been on the Starbucks menu for more than a decade.

Some Refreshers fans say Starbucks of watering down the drinks too much.

Others order the drink with no water or ice so they can whip up a pitcher of Refreshers at home using their own water and ice.

Of course, some people don’t get the water-free Refreshers trend. They say going waterless makes the Refreshers taste “like drinking syrup.”
