Game 4 of the first-round playoff series between the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors and upstart Sacramento Kings didn’t come without a profound sense of irony on Sunday in San Francisco.

As, without a doubt, the most thrilling game to take place on Sunday with neither team willing to give an inch, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry paid homage to former Kings superstar Chris Webber in a way that he immediately regretted.

During his time with the Michigan Wolverines, Webber called a timeout when his team didn’t have one resulting in his team ultimately losing the North Carolina Tarheels in the 1993 National Championship.

Although far from a championship game, Curry made the same move on Sunday in the final minute against the Kings, resulting in this reaction from head coach Steve Kerr via Shaqtin’ a Fool.

Although the late-game mistake didn’t cost the Warriors a win as they came out on top by one against the Kings on Sunday, it was still a forgettable moment, which will likely sit with Kerr and Curry for quite some time.

After the game, Kerr was asked about the late-game mishap and said the following via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

In a classy move, Kerr took the blame for the timeout being called, as he knew it was his fault for not telling the team that they were out of timeouts at such a crucial moment in a game against a formidable opponent.

Fortunately for Golden State, the team can put this behind them and focus on trying to take the series lead in Game 5 back in Sacramento.
