The Chicago Cubs have an interesting team in 2023.

Despite losing Willson Contreras, they added some key pieces in Jameson Taillon, Dansby Swanson, Trey Mancini, and Cody Bellinger.

But one piece of the puzzle that was already in place has been instrumental in the team’s early success.

Patrick Wisdom has been off to a hot start this year.

Once a farmhand for the St. Louis Cardinals, Wisdom was traded to the Texas Rangers in 2019 and was later cut loose.

But the Cubs came calling and took a chance on him.

This season, he’s off to a very hot start.

He has an OPS of 1.139 and has hit eight home runs already, five of which have come in the last four days.

It’s safe to say that Wisdom was a smart pickup by the Cubs back in 2021.

The slugger has now seemingly secured the starting job at third base and has become a key contributor for the Cubs.

Chicago is also 9-6 on the season and they sit just two games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

Wisdom led the way for the Cubs on Monday night against the Oakland Athletics.

The 31-year-old hit two home runs as the Cubs blew out the A’s by a final score of 10-1 and kept pace with the Brewers.

Wisdom is already close to 10 home runs 13 games into the season and appears to be headed for a breakout year.

The veteran will look to stay hot as the Cubs try and prove their doubters wrong.
