Canada drawn into Group A of Davis Cup with Italy, Sweden and Chile

Canada has drawn Italy, Sweden and Chile in the group stage of the Davis Cup tennis tournament, it was announced on Wednesday.

As winners of the 2022 Davis Cup, Canada earned a No. 1 seed in the draw while Australia was seeded No. 2 as the runners-up.

The International Tennis Federation confirmed that the AO Arena in Manchester will host a 2023 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage event from Sept. 12-17, which can be seen on Sportsnet.

After being swept 4-0 by the Netherlands in a qualifying tie back in March 2022, Canada was given a pass (as the highest-ranked country eliminated) into to the final phases of the event when defending champion Russia was ejected from the tournament after the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Given a second chance, the Canadians got through the elimination rounds, defeating Germany in the quarterfinals and Italy in the semifinals. In the final against Australia, Canada swept the two singles matches to clinch the title.
