After a disastrous 2022 season in which they lost 89 games, the Los Angeles Angels have been a little more active this offseason than in the past.

Their first order of business was to sign veteran left-hander Tyler Anderson to a three-year deal.

But they weren’t done after that move.

They acquired third baseman Gio Urshela from the Minnesota Twins and made a few more frugal signings, with Brandon Drury and Hunter Renfroe joining the team on shorter-term deals.

The Angels now look prepared to potentially take the next step, and the sluggers they signed should provide some optimism among the fanbase.

MLB Network tweeted a graphic showing just how similar their stats were in 2022.

Beyond Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, the Angels didn’t have too much offensive firepower.

But with the additions of Drury and Renfroe, their lineup now has a little extra thump in it.

Both sluggers hit close to 30 home runs in 2022.

Their averages are also quite similar.

Drury hit for a .263 average while Renfroe posted a .255 mark.

They were also neck and neck in WAR and in OPS.

Drury had the edge in RBI, having driven in 87 runs as opposed to the 72 driven in by Renfroe.

But both had the opportunity to mash in hitter-friendly NL Central ballparks for a good chunk of the season.

Renfroe spent the year with the Milwaukee Brewers, while Drury began the year with the Cincinnati Reds and was later traded to the San Diego Padres.

The Angels have a lot to look forward to in terms of power in their lineup.
