Plenty of fans are linking the Chicago Cubs to Trey Mancini.

While the team was in the running to get the 30-year-old star, they have yet to sign him.

The reason behind the Cubs not signing Mancini might have something to do with his performance last season.

While his .239 batting average, 18 home runs, and 63 RBIs for 2022 aren’t bad, it doesn’t show him as a power hitter.

However, his 2022 season is a tale of two different stories.

The first comes from his time with the Baltimore Orioles.

While with them, he had a .268 batting average, .347 OBP, .751 OPS, and 41 RBIs in 354 plate appearances.

With these numbers being better than his 2022 season totals, it’s clear he hit a rough patch with the Houston Astros.

His struggles went from the regular season and into the postseason with the Astros.

His time with the Astros saw him with a .176 batting average, .258 OBP, .622 OPS, and 22 RBIs in 165 plate appearances.

While his batting average, OBP, and OPS all took a hit, his RBIs were on the uptick based on his at-bats.

However, his struggles with getting on base might have led the Cubs to pass on Mancini.

With him turning 31-years-old this season, the Cubs don’t want to risk signing him.

While he’s had production in the past with the Orioles, he’s hitting the downward stages of his career.

He might still have production left in him, but 2022 was seeing it drop off.

With the Cubs wanting some power this season at the plate, Mancini won’t make a good fit if he’s trending toward a regression.
