Connor Bedard feels like he still needs to work on his game

Connor Bedard, owner of two world junior gold medals, a clutch pond-hockey highlight-reel OT goal and the top ranking (by a significant margin) in the upcoming NHL Draft, feels he’s got room for improvement.

“(I want to) improve in ways I can be more reliable in all situations,” Bedard told the The FAN Morning Show in an interview that aired Wednesday, when asked what he hopes to accomplish with his game the rest of the season. “(I want) to keep my creativity and offensive plays and stuff going on.”

Bedard, however, famous for not wanting to put the focus on himself for very long, if at all, immediately deflected the answer to his WHL team.

“For our team, we’re in a pretty good spot, but we want to kind of move up the standings a bit, and that was started off with a big win Sunday, a pretty big game for that,” said the Regina Pats captain, who had four goals and two assists in that game, his first back since winning gold. “But we’ve got a lot of games left and we want to be a top team and obviously competing for a championship.”

One thing Bedard never stops working on, to the everlasting dread of goalies who are still figuring out what he’s got now, is his shot.

“For me, it’s something I enjoy doing,” he said of repeatedly practising his shot. “Whenever you’re talking to kids about hockey or whatever, they enjoy shooting the puck the most. So, for me, it’s just something that I have fun with. I try to kind of look at it as, not a science, but there’s different ways you can shoot and they’re different releases, different slots or whatever. So, just trying to learn all those ways and trying to get better.”
