Manchester United will reportedly have to splash £103 million if they are looking to land Enzo Fernandes in the January transfer window.

Enzo Fernandes has been in the limelight given his recent performance for Argentina in the World Cup. The 21-year-old scored a vital goal for his side when they faced Mexico in their second group stage match, his goal helped Argentina register a comfortable win against Mexico and the win revived their chances of advancing to the next stage of the competition despite losing to Saudi Arabia in their opening game.

Messi who also played an instrumental role in Argentina’s win over Mexico showered praise on the midfielder

“I know Enzo very well, here from the national team and I also played against him in the Champions League. He deserves it, because he’s a spectacular kid and a very important player for us,”

“I’m very happy for him and for us, because the goal he scored gave us peace of mind in the game. We didn’t expect to start the World Cup with a loss, so we wanted to turn the situation around.

“Enzo’s great goal ended the game and now we can face the game against Poland in a different way.”

SL Benfica had signed Enzo from River Plate for just £10 million in the summer, the Portuguese giants had inserted a £103 million release clause to fend off any interest shown towards their star player.

Manchester United will have to break their club transfer record if they are looking to sign the midfielder (according to Express.UK). The £89.3 million they paid for Paul Pogba to Juventus in the summer of 2016 remains their record signing to date.

The Argentine international’s reputation has soared given his recent performances for SL Benfica as he has managed to rack up 3 goals and 5 assists in 24 matches across all competitions. Renowned for his midfield ability the 21-year-old has caught the attention of many European clubs who are interested in availing the star’s services.

Therefore it will be interesting to see how things unfold as Manchester United could face serious competition over signing the Argentine.
