Amid slump, Flames looking around for a scoring forward

The Calgary Flames have shown interest in acquiring a scoring forward since the summer, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

“I heard this week the Flames have been looking around for a scoring forward,” Friedman said on Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment. “I’ve been told this has been going on since August. So, I don’t think there’s anything pressing on that one right now.”

The Flames (5-6-2) entered Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets on a seven-game losing streak and their 38 goals scored were the lowest in the Pacific Division.

Calgary won the Pacific Division last season, before losing in the second round of the playoffs to the Edmonton Oilers. Johnny Gaudreau, who led the club in scoring, signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the summer, while Matthew Tkachuk was included in a deal with the Florida Panthers that brought in Jonathan Huberdeau.

Huberdeau, who has just one goal and six points in 11 games this season, has been sidelined since Tuesday with an injury.

Centre Nazem Kadri, signed by the Flames to a seven-year, $49-million deal in the off-season, leads the team in scoring with seven goals and 12 points.
