The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a year that saw them make the Western Conference Finals.

So heading into this season the expectations are very high for what the Mavs can accomplish.

The West is loaded so they will need to improve to make another run at the Finals this year.

Here are three reasons to watch the Mavericks this season.

1. Luka Magic

One of the top players in the NBA is Luka Doncic.

He has been one of the favorites to win league MVP over the past few seasons and that is no different this year.

Entering his fifth season, Doncic is averaging 26.4 points per game for his career.

But, so far this season the three-time All-Star is averaging 33.5 points per game.

Doncic is must-see TV and is the main reason to watch the Mavericks.

2. Which Role Players Will Step Up?

Even though Doncic is the main attraction in Dallas, they still need other players to step up and contribute this year.

It will be interesting to see who else can become a key contributor.

Some of the names to watch for are Christian Wood, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Tim Hardaway Jr.

All three of those guys can score the basketball and contribute in different ways.

Wood is the one newcomer in the group and has scored 25 points in each of the first two games.

If these role players can produce all season aside from Doncic, the Mavs have a chance to be very good.

3. Western Conference Threats

All fans should want to watch this Mavericks team simply because they have a chance to compete for a championship.

But, it will not be easy.

The West is loaded with some of the best teams in the NBA.

The defending champion Warriors are very good again, with the Suns, Clippers, Grizzlies, and Nuggets as contenders.

It seems plausible the Mavs could finish anywhere from 2nd to 7th in the Western Conference this year.

Having a strong regular season and giving them the best possible seed entering the playoffs will be crucial for Dallas.
