The famous Sister Jean, the 103-year old Loyola Chicago chaplain, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a Chicago Cubs game this week.

She donned a No. 103 jersey to take the mound prior to the Cubs’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

At her advanced age, Sister Jean sat in her wheelchair and tossed a pitch to the Cubs’ mascot, Clark the Cub.

Little did we know that the pitch was going to be good enough to force Detroit Tigers hitter Javier Baez to swing and miss.

Ha!

It was a joke – a video edit, to be precise – but we bet you thought it could be plausible.

Baez is an exciting player for many reasons: he has flair, he is confident in his abilities, he has power, speed, and excellent defense at two premium positions: shortstop and second base.

Those skills actually earned him a six-year, $140 million contract in the offseason.

Baez Is A Notorious Free Swinger

However, he is also known for being a free swinger, to put it lightly.

His plate discipline is one of his biggest weaknesses as a major leaguer.

That’s why Rob Friedman, the “Pitching Ninja” on Twitter, chose him for the video edit swinging and missing against Sister Jean.

We can now say that sister Jean is bringing the gas at 103.

Miles per hour, years…it doesn’t matter.

As for Baez, he is slashing .239/.280/.391 with 15 home runs this season.

He has struck out in 25.3 percent of his plate appearances in 2022, which is actually a sizable improvement over the 33.6 percent he had last season.

When you build yourself a reputation in baseball, it’s really hard to get rid of it.

It made for a really funny video, though.
