New Phillies Closer Had A Hilarious Moment Wednesday

In an attempt to bolster their bullpen and finally solve their ninth-inning issues once and for all, the Philadelphia Phillies traded for reliever David Robertson and anointed him as their new closer.

In fact, he pitched a clean ninth inning to notch his first save in a Phillies uniform, after getting 14 with his former team, the Chicago Cubs.

He looked good while doing so, too, which is something that the Phillies were needing for some time now: some stability is welcomed.

The veteran right-hander didn’t allow any runs, hits or walks, and struck out two hitters in Philadelphia’s 3-1 win against the Atlanta Braves.

The pitcher was also involved in a hilarious moment when he took the mound with blue cleats.

Robertson Pitched His First Phillies Game With Blue Cleats

As you probably know, the Cubs’ equipment is mostly blue, and Robertson, presumably without time or the attention to detail to notice, wore his old team’s cleats in today’s game.

He had a kick of it while talking to reporters.

“Dave Robertson is coming in for the save. He has Cubs blue cleats. ‘I need to talk to my agent about that,’ he said. (Robertson is his own agent.)” The Athletic’s Matt Gelb tweeted.

Robertson has represented himself for a while.

He was able to get a nice one-year deal with the Cubs, and is now pitching for a contender.

The Phillies are 56-48, owners of third place in the NL East.

They are 9.5 games out of first place, but if they keep playing well, the playoffs are waiting for them.

Robertson, who has a solid 2.23 ERA in 40.1 innings this season, will help them with high-leverage innings in close games.
