As we often say in this space, MLB is full of surprises.

Just when you think you have seen it all, the day shocks you with one fun fact or situation.

It (almost) happened on Monday.

According to Talkin’ Baseball, 11 of 12 MLB games yesterday were won by the team with the worse record.

Can you guess the only outlier?

The Seattle Mariners winning over the Texas Rangers.

Had the Rangers won on Monday night, it would have been a very, very weird day for oddsmakers around the sport.

It’s just one of those statistical oddities that occur from time to time.

The Mariners Saved The Day And Prevented A Full-On Underdogs Takeover

However, Seattle was able to hold off Texas with a close 4-3 victory.

Fueled by a Ty France homer, the Mariners took their record to 52-45, and are 12 games behind the Houston Astros.

Outside of that, the day was full of upsets on Monday.

The San Diego Padres are still incapable of winning in Detroit, and lost the opener, 12-4 ,against the Tigers.

The Cincinnati Reds annihilated the Miami Marlins by a final of 11-2, and the Philadelphia Phillies gave the Atlanta Braves a hard time and made them lose half a game in their quest for the division.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Boston Red Sox took down the Cleveland Guardians.

The most resounding surprises were the Oakland Athletics shutting out the Houston Astros, and the mediocre Washington Nationals beating the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was definitely a weird day in baseball on Monday.

Will the favorites return to their winning ways today, or will the underdogs have another field day on Tuesday?

The games have already started.
