For rookie defensive back Kyler Gordon, it was a dream come true to become a Chicago Bears player.
The former Washington Huskies corner can now show how good he is with the team of his dreams.
However, it would be a story that his dad, Bernard Gordon, that would bring the tears out.
It all starts with his story of how he got into football, and what he left behind to stick with the sport.
Football Was The Fastest Thing For Kyler Growing Up
Kyler’s dad would tell a story of how his son needed something that was moving faster.
He left behind dance, baseball, kung-fu, and even catching butterflies in his youth to play football.
“Catch with your hands” was what Bernard would tell his son when first throwing him a football.
It was all it took for Kyler to stick with football and get to play for the Chicago Bears.
Everything else that was in his life that his dad talked about wasn’t as fast for him as football.
It was the speed of the game that would give him the motivation to stick with the sport throughout his life.
The Bears are lucky to have this in him, as he’s set to become a starter for the team in 2022.
However, what can he bring to Chicago in his rookie season to impress fans?
Gordon’s Hands Will Be Key Against NFL Quarterbacks
With veteran quarterbacks willing to test rookie corners, expect to see a lot of passes thrown Gordon’s way in 2022.
However, it will be his hands that can make or break him in his rookie season.
Him doing everything with his hands, as his dad said in an interview, it puts pressure on him to show how good those hands are in the NFL.
Having excellent hands doesn’t always mean intercepting passes.
It’s about being able to defend passes and knock them away if you can’t make that interception.
Breaking up big plays with his hands will now become a focus with anyone that wishes to criticize him.
However, it’s a challenge he’s ready to accept, as he’s showing that he can do these things.

In the video, he not only recognizes the throw being short, but comes back and uses his hands to make the pick.
It’s his hands, along with that play recognition, that makes him a threat on defense for the Bears.
If he can continue this going into the 2022 NFL season, things might look real good for the Bears secondary.
However, practice and game speed are two totally different beasts in the NFL.
It’s about if he can focus during games and use those hands when fans are screaming.
With that test quickly approaching, he’s at least setting the ground for how he’s able to do these things.
Gordon is looking to give Bears fans something to be happy about in the secondary for the 2022 NFL season.
