‘Ms. Wonder’ trailer introduces the MCU’s Muslim teenager superhero

The new trailer for “Ms. Wonder,” dotted with speech balloons instantly out of a comic book ebook, introduces audience to Kamala, a Muslim, Pakistani-American prime schooler from New Jersey who doodles and daydreams about sooner or later becoming a member of the superheroes she idolizes. Kamala, who used to be offered in comics in 2013 prior to getting her personal sequence the next 12 months, used to be Wonder’s first Muslim-American superhero.
Despite the fact that sooner or later our teenage hero (performed by means of Iman Vellani) will develop into one among Wonder’s maximum tough crime warring parties, the sequence seems to function her beginning tale. The Kamala we meet encounters sniping classmates who mispronounce her title and poke a laugh at her Avengers T-shirt. She gawks at a shirtless boy at a birthday party surrounded by means of similarly awed buddies. And, crucially, she envisions herself as a model of Captain Wonder, a cosmic-powered icon within the MCU.

That daydream is natural fable, till it’s not: The trailer does not display us simply how Kamala will get her powers or their extent (no spoilers right here) — she describes them as “cosmic.”

“It is not actually the brown ladies from Jersey Town who save the arena,” Kamala says at one level within the trailer. However “Ms. Wonder” the sequence will most likely end up her fallacious.

What foes will Kamala face past highschool imply ladies and intimidatingly horny classmates? Will her circle of relatives be informed her super-powered secret? And when will she get to enroll in her idol Captain Wonder in protecting Earth from interstellar invaders? (She’s set to seem within the upcoming “Captain Wonder” sequel “The Marvels.”)

The MCU loves a gradual construct, so it is most likely neither Kamala nor the audience gets each query spoke back. Wonder enthusiasts have most likely already begun theorizing, however they’re going to have to attend till June 8, when the display begins streaming on Disney+, to look how Kamala’s tale performs out.
