Tyler Seguin’s leg cut by skate in Stars-Sabres game

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin left Thursday night’s game after getting cut on his left leg by an opponent’s skate.

He got tangled up with Buffalo Sabres forward Jordan Greenway around the midway point of the first period and when he fell, Greenway’s skate appeared to catch him above his knee. Seguin grabbed his leg and limped to the dressing room.

The Stars later announced that Seguin wouldn’t return to the game because of a lower-body injury.

Seguin, a six-time NHL All-Star, had entered Thursday’s game ranked fourth on the Central Division-leading Stars with 17 goals and sixth with 42 points.

Stars coach Pete DeBoer confirmed after the 10-4 victory that Seguin had been cut.

“We’ll evaluate,” DeBoer said. “He got stitched up. We’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

Seguin’s Achilles tendon had been partially cut by a skate during the 2015-16 season.

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane had missed three months this season after being cut on the wrist by a skate in early November. He needed surgery.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that skate cuts and how to protect against them would be a topic at the upcoming general managers meetings.
