Jacob deGrom Reportedly Stays On Track For A Return

The New York Mets are still hopeful to have the dream rotation pairing of Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer in activity soon.

This is despite deGrom’s latest setback, suffered last week.

During the All-Star break, specifically between Tuesday and Thursday, the ace reported some muscle soreness in the shoulder area.

Fortunately for the Mets, the roadblock is considered minor: in fact, he threw on Sunday and reportedly felt good afterwards.

“Jacob deGrom threw a side session today at Citi Field. Plan is still for him to throw in a minor league rehab game this week, day and locale TBA,” New York Post’s Mike Puma reported via Twitter.

He has been out all year with a stress fracture on his right scapula, but is just about ready to return from a health standpoint.

He had thrown 60 pitches on Thursday before shutting things down for a couple of days.

In theory, he shouldn’t need much more than an additional start or two in the minor leagues.

The Mets Are Making Sure He Is 100 Percent Healthy

However, with the way his body has broken down in recent seasons and the way the Mets protect and take care of him, there could more.

deGrom could only pitch 92 innings last year with several injuries in his arm and other body parts.

Make no mistake, though: when he is on the mound, there is no one like him in the world.

No one.

Last year, he had a stellar 7-2 record and a minuscule 1.08 ERA, with 146 strikeouts and a 0.55 WHIP.

The main challenge, for him, is remaining in one piece.

The Mets need him badly, as their lead in the NL East has evaporated to just 1.5 games.

With him and Scherzer on the same rotation, it would be another story.

He seems so, so close.
