The New York Jets could be on the cusp of hiring Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be the franchise’s next head coach.
Glenn has had multiple interviews with the team.
Former New York Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason, who was teammates with Glenn on the Jets, recently warned the Jets and their fans about hiring Glenn.
“We’re going down the same road once again…We’re not advocates for a newbie to come in here and take this thing over,” Esiason said via WFAN Sports Radio.

Esiason also mentioned that he wishes Glenn would go to a place like Jacksonville because the Jaguars have a much younger, more talented quarterback in Trevor Lawrence.
This could also be the Jets’ third consecutive hire of a prominent defensive coordinator as a first-time head coach.
They did it with Todd Bowles and Robert Saleh and might do it again with Glenn.
Bowles almost led the team to the playoffs at one point, and Saleh’s teams showed promise, but he never fully got the chance to coach with quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center.
Depending on what he and management decide, Glenn could keep Rodgers.
At 41, he is still able to play, judging by what fans saw from him last season.
That is, if the Jets move forward with hiring Glenn at all.
Glenn was originally drafted by the Jets in 1994 in the first round and made multiple Pro Bowls in eight seasons with the team.
