ChatGPT has a new feature called Tasks that allows you to set up recurring actions for a future time or set reminders, OpenAI said in a press release on Tuesday.
Functions include being able to have ChatGPT give you weekly news briefings or daily weather updates, according to OpenAI. Other tasks could include having ChatGPT remind you in six months that your passport will expire or to come up with jokes for kids everyday at 6 p.m.

The latest feature rollout from OpenAI comes as other AI companies are also looking to differentiate themselves in a competitive market. Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, introduced an integration with Tripadvisor last week to fill up results with information from Tripadvisor’s users. The Google TV platform is getting Gemini AI integrations later this year, allowing people to ask their TV questions like they would on their phones. Meta is also looking at more ways to give people AI, like potentially bringing Meta AI to WhatsApp users.
These measures make AI more ubiquitous in user’s lives and also drive up companies’ valuations. Perplexity was valued around $500 million at the start of 2024 and has raced up to $60 billion by the end of the year, while Anthropic tripled its valuation to $9 billion in the same time span. While these are impressive numbers, neither can match the meteoric rise of OpenAI, which was valued at $157 billion in October, almost doubling in less than a year. As ChatGPT’s integration with Apple Intelligence comes into greater focus as features continually roll out, OpenAI’s valuation may rise further.
At the moment, Tasks is currently in beta and will roll out to Plus, Team and Pro users over the next few days. Tasks will be available on desktop, web and mobile, but the tasks manager can only be accessed via a web browser. OpenAI says it’s limiting this feature to paid subscribers so it can understand how people are using the feature before rolling it out to free users.
