One of the more interesting head coaching candidates in the NFL right now is Pete Carroll.

Carroll was at the helm of the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2023, and during the 2013 season coached them to their first Super Bowl championship.

Prior to coaching Seattle, he was in charge of the University of Southern California’s talented teams in the 2000s, and previously had brief NFL stints as head coach of the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

He was scheduled to interview for the Chicago Bears’ vacant head coaching job, which left ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky with questions about the 73-year-old.

“One, can he still coach defense at a high level? And two, who’s his offensive coordinator?” Orlovsky said, via NFL on ESPN.

Carroll stepped away from coaching the Seahawks after last season and this season served in an advisory position with the franchise.

It has been speculated for months that he would soon be looking for one more head coaching job, and there are a few available, including with the Bears.

Chicago has a talented but flawed rookie quarterback in Caleb Williams, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, as well as very capable wide receivers D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen.

However, that talent did not come together this season, and the Bears went 5-12 while enduring a 10-game losing streak along the way.

That cost Matt Eberflus his job with Chicago after a Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions.
