Aaron Glenn Declines Interview With 1 NFL Team

Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, is among several intriguing head coaching candidates in the NFL right now, and his success in helping to turn around a Lions team that was a laughingstock just a couple of years ago is making him an attractive option.

He reportedly has five interviews scheduled for the coming days, but he did decline an interview with one team looking to get off the ground in its rebuilding process.

The New England Patriots were reportedly rebuffed in their efforts to book an interview with Glenn, per WEEI.

The Patriots parted ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick about a year ago after he had been in charge for 24 seasons, and Jerod Mayo, who had been a star linebacker for them in the late 2000s and 2010s, was hired to replace Belichick.

But Mayo was dismissed shortly after the Patriots ended the 2024 regular season with a win over the Buffalo Bills, which means they’re once again looking for a head coach.

Glenn had been an assistant and main defensive backs coach for the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints before becoming Detroit’s defensive coordinator for the 2021 season.

Along with head coach Dan Campbell, who was also hired that year, he took the Lions from a 3-13 record that year to a 12-5 finish and a trip to the NFC Championship Game in 2023.

New England may have their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, but they have numerous roster needs, not to mention lots of work to do this offseason.
