Trudeau Shuts Down Talk of Making Canada a State

“Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday afternoon shut down President-elect Donald Trump’s latest comment that he wants Canada to become a U.S. state,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Trudeau: “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.”

New York Times: “Mr. Trump’s threat, delivered at a news conference at his private Florida residence Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, and Mr. Trudeau’s response highlighted the stakes of the next Washington administration for Canada. It also brought into sharp focus the fact that Mr. Trudeau is now essentially a lame-duck leader who will have a challenging time trying to negotiate with Mr. Trump.”
