Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported on Wednesday that the Flames have ruled out a knee fracture for the 23-year-old following a knee-on-knee collision with Anahaim’s Drew Helleson on Tuesday.
Helleson was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for kneeing on the play.
The Flames are waiting for the inflammation to subside before conducting imaging to determine the extent of Zary’s injury, Seravalli added.
Zary writhed in pain on the ice, appearing to be badly injured after the play with Helleson.
He eventually left the ice without putting weight on his left leg, and did not return to the game.
After the game, Flames head coach Ryan Huska said he “didn’t like” the hit.
Zary has been a positive presence for the Flames this season, recording 10 goals and 12 assists in 40 games.
Since joining the NHL last season, the Saskatoon native has collected 24 goals and 32 assists.
