Instead of improving their draft status on the final Sunday of the regular season, the New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills 23-16. Just afterward, they fired Jerod Mayo, who had been in his first season as their head coach.
They have begun their search for their next head coach, and on Wednesday, they reportedly interviewed Mike Vrabel for that role.
On “The Herd w/ Colin Cowherd,” Fox Sports analyst Peter Schrager said that Vrabel would be the ideal man to coach the Patriots.
“I’m getting that thing done as soon as possible,” Schrager said. “It makes so much sense.”

Vrabel could be the hottest head coaching candidate in the NFL right now, and he has already been interviewed by the New York Jets.
He was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023, and while he was there, he made a name for himself as someone who got the most out of a Titans roster that was only slightly above average at best.
In 2019, he guided them to the AFC Championship Game after they unexpectedly upset the 14-2 Baltimore Ravens and league MVP Lamar Jackson in the divisional round.
Vrabel served as a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns this season.
New England could have their franchise quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, who just wrapped up his rookie season, but they have needs just about everywhere else on their roster.
They will have the No. 4 pick in the upcoming draft, and as Schrager noted, they have $130 million in salary cap space.
