New L’Oreal Device on Show at CES 2025 Can Tell You What Your Skin Needs in Minutes

CES 2025 in Las Vegas is off to a great start — especially for the intersection of beauty and tech. On Monday L’Oreal unveiled its new Cell BioPrint device, designed to determine skin’s age, needs and potential future.

The device was developed thanks to a partnership with a Korean startup, NanoEnTek, and L’Oréal’s research into skin biomarkers and their ability to predict longevity and aging. The device aims to give users a personalized assessment of their skin’s biological age, potential response to product ingredients, such as retinol, and cosmetic issues they might be prone to.

“With the Cell BioPrint device, we offer people the ability to discover deeper insights about their skin through specific biomarkers and to proactively address the beauty and longevity of their skin,” said Deputy CEO at L’Oréal Groupe Barbara Lavernos in a press release.

CNET’s Bridget Carey tried out the BioPrint first-hand at the show:

The Cell BioPrint reads your skin in a few easy and noninvasive steps. First, you apply and pull a piece of adhesive from your cheek to collect cells. Then it’s placed into a solution. The solution is loaded into the Cell BioPrint device, and the machine processes the sample. The device will take images of your face and you’ll be asked to fill out a short questionnaire about your skin concerns.

It is unknown when the Cell BioPrint device will be available in the US, but the device will be piloted with a L’Oréal brand in Asia later this year. The company didn’t say what it would do with the data it collects.

L’Oreal has long experimented with biomedical technology to help sell its beauty products and is a frequent exhibitor at tech shows. At the Paris Vivatech conference in May, L’Oreal showcased an AI-assisted beauty app, an infrared hair dryer and a 3D skin printer. At CES 2023, it unveiled a computerized makeup applicator, for those with limited mobility, and a hand-held electronic brow applicator. Previous CESes have seen L’Oreal show off a personal UV detector and a custom lipstick mixer.
