Westfalia Fruit has bought Belgium-based avocado products manufacturer Syros for an undisclosed sum.
Founded three decades ago, Syros provides “high-quality” avocado-based products to European supermarkets, restaurant chains and meal box companies.
The company supplies products under its professional market brand Syros and consumer market brand Wonky.
Its product range also includes a variety of guacamole options.
Wim Destoop, the regional president of Westfalia Fruit’s operations in Europe, said: “This acquisition strengthens our value-added business in Europe and aligns perfectly with our growth strategy.
“Syros has been a trusted partner for many years, with Westfalia supplying a high percentage of their raw materials. Their commitment to quality and sustainability mirrors our own values, making this a natural next step for both companies.”

In a statement, Westfalia said the integration with Syros will “enhance” its presence in the European market “while upholding the high standards for which both organisations are renowned.”
Syros CEO Pieter Casneuf added: “For three decades, Syros has focused on ‘making food happen’ by providing flavourful, high-quality food in a sustainable way.
“Joining Westfalia, with whom we have worked together already for many years, will enable us to continue this mission with even greater capabilities and reach.”
Operating across 17 countries on five continents, Westfalia’s portfolio includes fresh produce as well as value-added offerings such as avocado oil, frozen avocado, and low-preservative guacamole.
Westfalia added the move for Syros is part of its “ongoing strategy to expand the company’s global presence.”
In October 2023, the company received a $300m loan facility from three banks to expand production and explore new markets.
In October last year, the group appointed former Tesco executive Chris Bush as its new CEO.
