Wearables maker Amazfit unveiled its Active 2 smartwatch at CES on Monday, touting it as a long-lasting device fit for a health-driven lifestyle. And with a starting price of $100, it’s aggressively priced compared to smartwatches from Apple, Google and Samsung. The announcement also comes as Samsung recently said it’s bringing its $60 Galaxy Fit 3 fitness tracker to the US market, further signaling that tech giants are trying to court consumers with cheaper prices.
The Amazfit Active 2 features a round, 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a stainless steel body. The company says the battery lasts up to 10 days, which is notably longer than the battery life you’d get on watches like the Apple Watch Series 10 or Google Pixel Watch 3, although those watches typically offer more advanced features. The watch includes Amazfit’s latest dual-LED 5PD biosensor, which the company claims can pick up more biometric signals for better accuracy.
The Active 2 also adds a barometer for altitude measurements, an accelerometer and gyroscope for recognizing sleep and movement, an ambient light sensor to improve the display under different light conditions and support for additional sports like skiing. That brings the number of sports modes to over 160.
The integration of Zepp Coach offers personalized training and running plans, and a daily Readiness score summarizes mental and physical recovery and shares insights.
Users can also tap into offline maps with turn-by-turn directions. They can be followed on-screen, via the built-in speaker or through connected Bluetooth headphones.
The Amazfit Active 2 is available now for preorder in the US on the company’s site, and will be available globally in February through Amazfit’s site and retail partners. Prices start at $100 for the standard version, which comes with either a red or black silicone strap, and $130 for the premium version, which arrives with a black genuine leather strap and sapphire glass screen covering. The premium version will also include a red silicone strap for workouts.
The Amazfit Active 2 could be an ideal choice for those who want a fitness tracker without paying for a pricer device like the $399 Apple Watch Series 10 or $300 Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, although those pricier devices have more premium features like ECG and sleep apnea detection and typically offer better integration with a phone.
