Analyst Believes The Mets Need To Make 1 More Move This Offseason

The New York Mets made an unlikely postseason run in 2024 as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies in the playoffs before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

After a taste of October baseball, the Mets came into the offseason and signed the top free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees.

The Mets appear to be going all in on winning a World Series title in 2025, and the addition of Soto is a huge step in the right direction.

While the Soto signing was great for the Mets, MLB Analyst Jim Memolo believes the team needs to make one more move and bring first baseman Pete Alonso back for the 2025 season.

“You have to back up the Soto signing if you’re the Mets,” Memolo said via MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM.

While the Mets want to bring Alonso back next season, there appears to be a gap between the money they want to pay him and the money that he wants.

Alonso came into the league in 2019 with the Mets and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.

Although Alonso had a bit of a down season in 2024, he still played in all 162 games and batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs, and a .788 OPS.

Memolo believes the Mets have to back up the signing of Soto by bringing Alonso back next season.

The Mets haven’t won a World Series title since 1986, and if they can bring Alonso back next season alongside Soto, they might have their best chance to win a title in a long time.
