Analyst Believes Mike McCarthy Should Leave The Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys will wrap up their regular season on Sunday with a battle against the Washington Commanders, and it will be the team’s first time not making the playoffs since 2020, the last time quarterback Dak Prescott was injured for an extended period of time.

Head coach Mike McCarthy coached this whole season on an expiring contract, and it’s still unclear if the team envisions him as part of its long-term future.

One analyst believes it’s time for the two parties to part ways, not for the same reasons many others claim.

Player-turned-analyst Leger Douzable said on Sunday’s CBS pregame show, “The Cowboys are in this mess not because of Mike McCarthy, it’s because of Jerry Jones. You wait to pay your star players, and the price tag only goes up. That means you can’t add adequate pieces to go on a run.”

Douzable added it’s important not to forget that this team won 12 games in each of the previous three seasons under McCarthy and said that McCarthy should consider going somewhere else where he might be more appreciated due to the team not extending his contract or any of his foundational pieces’ contracts in a timely manner coming off three 12-win seasons.

The Cowboys have still won four of their last six games with Cooper Rush at quarterback.

They have fought valiantly despite this season flying off the rails early on.

If McCarthy does decide to leave, there will certainly be plenty of solid head coaching openings around the league.
