The Miami Dolphins are hanging on by a thread in the AFC playoff race as they enter Week 18 with a slim chance of making it.

The Dolphins not only need to defeat the New York Jets without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but they also need the Denver Broncos to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs, who will be resting Patrick Mahomes and other starters.

Miami’s path may look simple, but the odds of both situations happening are rather slim given New York’s insistence on closing out the season strong and Denver’s own playoff life on the line.

The Dolphins have been one of the most intriguing teams in recent seasons thanks to head coach Mike McDaniel, but fans have begun to turn on the front office for failing to build a true Super Bowl contender.

The frustration with general manager Chris Grier has gotten louder this season, with some calling for him to go.

It appears critics may get their wish after all as there are rumors of Grier stepping down this offseason.

“Chris Grier has been in the Miami Dolphins organization since 2000. He has seen one Miami playoff win since then (a wild-card victory in his first season as a scout with the team). A strong rumor around the league during the fall was that Grier could retire and move to a senior advisor role,” Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports wrote.

Grier’s resume with Miami doesn’t look great, and it doesn’t seem like he’s destined to work in the role much longer.
