The New York Jets are hitting the reset button, diving into their search for an experienced head coach as their disappointing season winds down.
With Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas no longer in the picture, the focus has shifted to filling both the head coach and general manager positions.
The Jets’ season, which began with high hopes of snapping a 14-year playoff drought, has fizzled into a four-win campaign.
The struggles deepened after Saleh was fired, with interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich managing a 2-9 record following the team’s 2-3 start.
With their offseason about to begin, the Jets announced a major move in their coaching search.
“We have also completed an interview with Ron Rivera for our Head Coach position,” the Jets wrote on X.

Rivera’s recent stint with the Washington Commanders from 2020 to 2023 resulted in a 26-40-1 record and a playoff appearance in his debut season.
His coaching credentials shine brightest from his Carolina Panthers days (2011 to 2019), where he twice claimed NFL Coach of the Year honors (2013 and 2015).
Known as “Riverboat Ron” for his gutsy play-calling, Rivera’s time in Carolina was marked by notable success.
He steered the Panthers to four playoff appearances, with the highlight being a Super Bowl run following a stellar 15-1 regular season record in 2015.
Jets owner Woody Johnson has brought in The 33rd Team to help navigate the process.
The consulting firm will play a key role in identifying candidates as the Jets look to chart a new course for their franchise.
