The Arizona Cardinals may have some upward potential over the next few years, but right now, they’re stuck in the worst position for a sports team: certified mediocrity.
They will not be taking part in this season’s NFL playoffs, but with a 7-9 record, their draft position won’t be very high, and in a somewhat weak 2025 draft class, that will likely prevent them from selecting an impact player.
There is now talk that they could end up trading quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason, and if they were to actually do so, there is a surprise team favored to land him: the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Murray is a 2x Pro Bowler and the Rookie of the Year. Murray, together with Mike Tomlin, would be fascinating.

Murray may not be a true franchise quarterback, but he could perhaps elevate a team a bit if he has the right coach, teammates and offensive system to work with.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has a reputation as someone who may not elevate a quarterback’s level of play, unless his quarterback is named Ben Roethlisberger, but Russell Wilson, at age 36, has had a decent year under his coaching.
This season, Murray has thrown for 3,609 yards and 17 touchdowns with a 68.6 percent pass completion rating, but he has also thrown 11 interceptions, with eight of them coming in his last seven games.
His ability to move the chains with his legs makes him intriguing — he has run for 550 yards and five touchdowns through 15 games while averaging 7.3 yards per carry this year.
The Cardinals have several roster needs, and being in limbo like that could very well cause them to bite the bullet and start retooling a bit by trading Murray to the highest bidder.
