The Cincinnati Bengals kept their season alive with a thrilling 30-24 overtime win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday, but they may have lost a key member of their offence in the process.
Canadian running back Chase Brown was ruled out by Cincinnati during overtime with a right ankle injury.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor didn’t have a concrete update on Brown’s condition following the game. “I just know it’s an ankle sprain, we’ll see from there,” he told reporters.
Brown, 24, left the game in the final minutes of the fourth quarter after going down at the one-yard line while trying to avoid scoring a touchdown. With more than a minute left on the clock, the Bengals were trying to kill time to cut into the Broncos’ chances of evening the game.
Ultimately, Cincinnati scored on a Joe Burrow rush, and the Broncos scored on their ensuing drive to send the contest to overtime.
A London, Ont. native, Brown had 67 yards rushing on 20 carries and 24 yards receiving on four catches before going down with the injury.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, Brown entered Saturday’s game with 923 yards rushing on 209 carries with seven touchdowns. He had also caught 50 passes for 336 yards and four scores.
After starting the year 4-8, the Bengals have now won four straight games to keep their playoff hopes alive. They will need to win next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with some help from around the league, if they want to return to the post-season.
