San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has become one of sports’ greatest Cinderella stories ever since he went from the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft to a full-time starter in a space of just eight months.
Many debate whether he is truly deserving of being the starting quarterback for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, but the Niners have been sold on him dating back to the start of last season.
In Week 16 of this season, the Niners will visit the Miami Dolphins, the team they played when Purdy took over for good under center due to a foot injury suffered by Jimmy Garoppollo in Week 13 of the 2022 campaign.
One would think that Purdy grew up as an Arizona Cardinals fan in the Phoenix area, but he recently said he was a Dolphins fan when he was younger.
“It’s gonna be cool to go down and play ’em again and down in Miami. Grew up a Dolphin fan and everything, so I think it’s pretty cool going into Miami and playing in that stadium,” Purdy said, via FinsXtra.

The Dolphins have been in a very long-term funk ever since the retirement of legendary quarterback Dan Marino before the 2000 season, but in the past couple of years, there have been signs they could be on their way back to Super Bowl contention.
Despite suffering multiple concussions, Tua Tagovailoa has grown into a competent quarterback, and they have potent weapons such as wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back De’Von Achane.
Miami also has a hint of a San Francisco flavor throughout the organization, as head coach Mike McDaniel was the 49ers’ offensive coordinator in 2021, and running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson were with San Francisco not too long ago.
