Victor Wembanyama is the NBA’s newest sensation, and even before he set foot in the league for the first time, many felt he would become the best basketball player in the world within five years, or possibly even sooner.
The 7-foot-3 San Antonio Spurs phenom is averaging 23.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and a league-high 3.9 blocked shots a game, and he’s already a nightmare on the defensive end.
He has become a prime-time scoring threat despite the fact that he hasn’t really learned how to play in the low post yet and lacks a bread-and-butter move down low.
Former NBA big man Mychal Thompson made an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio and questioned why the Spurs don’t get Wembanyama more touches and shot attempts in the paint in order to take advantage of his freakish height.

Right now, roughly half of Wembanyama’s shot attempts come from 3-point range, and while he can hit from that distance, overall, he’s making just 33.3 percent of such attempts this season.
Just 21.9 percent of his shot attempts this season have come from within three feet of the basket, which is actually down from 29.3 percent last season, but he has made 84.5 percent of such attempts this season.
Wembanyama has bulked up to 235 pounds this year, which has given him a lot more strength in the paint, and once he develops a true low post game and makes the paint his home, it could be just about over for the rest of the NBA.
