Analyst Says Falcons Recent Move ‘Doesn’t Make Sense’

The Atlanta Falcons are ready to make moves.

They might be done with Kirk Cousins after less than one year at the helm and giving him $90 million guaranteed.

Raheem Morris demanded better quarterback play after the close win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and not even winning that game was enough for Cousins to keep his job.

That’s why NFL analyst Rob Parker doesn’t think the decision to bench him made any sense.

Talking on FOX Sports, he argued that it would’ve made sense to bench him three weeks ago, not after a win:

“This doesn’t make sense! If you had benched Kirk Cousins three weeks ago, I would have understood, especially when he had no touchdowns and 8 interceptions over a four-week stretch… HE JUST WON THE GAME. I’m not even a big Kirk Cousins fan, but this timing doesn’t make sense!” Parker said.

Then again, Cousins’ play left plenty to be desired over the past month or so, so it’s difficult to make a case for the Falcons to keep starting him when the season is on the line.

Granted, trying to salvage the season with a rookie signal-caller is risky, to say the least, but they might feel like Michael Penix Jr. is ready.

It’s also worth noting that the Falcons didn’t do Cousins many favors with their offensive scheming and play-calling, as he never looked suited to run that kind of offense.

Still, he’s 36 years old and coming off a major injury, so it also makes sense that this team wants to see what they have on their hands with their first-round pick.

This looks like the end of the line for Cousins in Atlanta, and he might be one of the most coveted free agents in the offseason if the Falcons decide to release him.
