Stefon Diggs on former Bills teammate Josh Allen: ‘Definitely’ the MVP

While things didn’t end well for the Stefon Diggs-Josh Allen combination in Buffalo, the Houston Texans receiver still has plenty of respect for what the Bills quarterback can do on the field.

Speaking on Good Morning Football on Tuesday, Diggs gave his vote to Allen for this year’s NFL MVP award.

“It’s impressive. Somebody had said something to me on Twitter and I was like ‘He definitely should win (MVP). He’s been balling,'” Diggs said.

“Obviously, it’s no secret that Josh Allen is amazing as far as seeing him game in and game out. He’s making those plays. It’s not new to me at all. It’s not new to nobody in the league. I feel like it’s just his respect kind of coming full circle, finally getting the credit he deserves. He’s playing at a very high level.”

The Bills traded Diggs to the Texans in the off-season in a cap-clearing move following four Pro Bowl seasons in Buffalo.

Various reports had circulated in recent years that the relationship between Diggs and Allen had become strained.

Just this week in The Athletic, NFL senior writer Michael Silver touched on the Diggs-Allen drama.

“According to several Bills sources, the once close connection between Allen and Diggs began to fray late in the 2022 season,” Silver wrote. “Diggs wanted to be targeted more frequently and chafed when Allen didn’t get him the ball. Allen, in turn, became frustrated by the receiver’s penchant for freelancing, believing he couldn’t count on Diggs to be where he was supposed to be on certain routes.

“All of this led Allen, who some of those same Bills sources describe as a ‘pleaser,’ to feel compelled to force the ball to Diggs. Allen also tried to make sure he delivered an ample amount of balls to Buffalo’s No. 2 receiver, Gabe Davis, with whom he was close. Davis signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent last March.”

While the Texans (9-5) have clinched the AFC South title, Diggs suffered a season-ending injury in Week 8.

Allen and the Bills are 11-3 after a road win over the NFC-leading Detroit Lions.

Allen is the current betting favourite to win the MVP award at BetMGM. He’s followed by Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff.
