The team announced the move on Friday night.

Detroit is scheduled to play Campebll’s former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Saturday night.

Campbell has played in two games with Grand Rapids since being cleared to return from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and making it through waivers in mid-November.

The 32-year-old recorded a 2.55 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in those two contests, making 57 saves on 62 shots.

In July, Detroit signed Campbell to a one-year contract worth $775,000. Before entering the Player Assistance Program, he appeared in one pre-season game for the Red Wings against the Buffalo Sabres, where he allowed two goals on 22 shots for a .909 save percentage in 24:46 of ice time.

The Michigan native made his NHL debut in 2013 after being selected in the first round (11th overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Campbell has previously suited up for the Stars, the Los Angeles Kings, the Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers and has made 176 career NHL appearances since 2013, with a save percentage of .909.
