Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick surprised many people when he agreed to become the head coach for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels this week.
He sat out this season after leaving the New England Patriots in January, and it was widely expected that he would end up back in the NFL as a head coach in 2025.
Some may wonder how his leadership technique and seemingly gruff personality will work in the college ranks, where it is more important to nurture players and show enthusiasm, but Mike Francesa said he won’t have a problem recruiting the nation’s best high school players.
Francesa believes Belichick won’t have a problem recruiting because of his Super Bowl rings and bringing Lawrence Taylor with him.

Belichick won six Super Bowl championships while at the helm of the Patriots, and many years ago, he also won two Vince Lombardi Trophies as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants under head coach Bill Parcells.
All he needs to do, as Francesa pointed out, is roll those Super Bowl championship rings onto the table when meeting with a prospect in order to show what he can do for such a prospect.
The Tar Heels have never really been a football powerhouse, but at the very least, Belichick’s arrival will give the school some much-needed visibility on the changing landscape of college football.
Some may wonder if Belichick is merely using this new gig to improve his chances of getting another NFL head coaching job and chasing Don Shula’s all-time coaching wins record, but for now, he will be looking to build the program into one that is respected across the nation.
